How well do you clean the vents/grates?
We strip down to the bare metal by using a few processes depending on how much paint build up there is and type of vent/grate.
What sizes can you work on?
The max size we can sandblast is 52”x30”x30”.
Will the surface be smooth for painting after stripping?
Vents/grates - Depending on the condition of the items, it will be paint ready once stripped/sandblasted and primed. The sand blasting does leave a slight etched feel and the primer will cover/adhere to it better. The vintage vents/grates are cast metal so there is a bit of texture usually on the inside faces of the designs and possibly some pits on the face depending.
Sashes - The paint is stripped to bare wood and repaired if needed.
If the vent louvers wont move, what happens?
Once the items get stripped, any moving parts might need a little fixing and we will try to take care of it. We can’t guarantee that everything will be 100% due to age/rust/etc over the years.
What are the paint options?
Vents/grates - We provide a primer finish on the items and if there are louvers that can be removed, we will paint those black. If you want a custom color, include specs with shipment or drop off the paint. Rust-Oleum spray comes in a variety of colors if needed.
Sashes - It’s typical to use a oil base sealer to where the glass/glazing is mounted. Water or oil based primer is used on the rest of the window sash
Do you use the original bolts and hardware?
Depending on how damaged the hardware/bolts are, we will try to save them. Typical bolts are #10-32 flat heads but we replace with a flat/phillips combo head in either a countersunk or pan head type.
For the sashes, we can replace what is needed typically.
What if the glass is bad or breaks?
In the stripping process, the glass could crack/break if there are hidden breaks in the glazing and elsewhere. We use a technique to reduce any torque on the glass but it is old glass so we try our best to not break it. If it needs replaced, we will contact you and figure pricing.
Do you make the window sashes look like new?
We will repair what is needed to make the window stable and look good. I would say we shoot for a 90% like new look. There will be small things that we might not address like small chips, or slightly broken wood on the sides where the counterweight rope attaches to.
